Landmarks of Legacy

Landmarks of Legacy

A Century at the Crossroads of History and Wilderness

Some places earn their meaning slowly—one traveler at a time, one generation at a time, one slice of pie at a time. Tucked beneath old-growth pines along the Rogue River corridor in southern Oregon, Union Creek Resort and Beckie’s Café have been welcoming wayfarers since the earliest days of national park and forest travel. As America marks 250 years, Aramark Destinations invites you to celebrate another remarkable milestone: in 2026, Beckie’s Café turns 100.

100 Years of Pie, History, and Hospitality

In 1926, Ed Beckelhymer built a modest café along the road connecting Jacksonville and Fort Klamath. A hundred years later, Beckie’s Café is still baking pies daily, still pouring coffee for hikers and road-trippers, and still anchoring one of the most beloved historic stops in the Pacific Northwest.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places alongside Union Creek Resort, Beckie’s is more than a restaurant. It is a landmark—a living piece of the story of travel, discovery, and hospitality in the American Northwest.

Our Promise to These Places, and to You

Landmarks of Legacy connects our destinations through three shared commitments.

Stewardship

Caring for What Endures: Union Creek Resort operates under a U.S. Forest Service permit—a responsibility we take seriously. Stewardship here means protecting the old-growth forests of the Rogue River corridor, sustaining the wild streams where anglers have cast their lines for generations, and ensuring that this corner of southern Oregon remains as extraordinary for the next hundred years as it has been for the last.

Stories that Shape Our Destinations

Every Landmark Has a Voice: Before Union Creek was a resort, it was a trail—a passage for pioneers crossing the Cascades in search of new horizons. Before Beckie’s was a café, it was a gathering place along a lonely road. The petrified wood fireplace surround that survived the fire of 1937 still stands in the Lodge fireside library, carrying within it a story of loss, resilience, and return.

Experiences of Legacy

Not Spectators. Participants. From fly-fishing Union Creek’s wild trout runs to hiking through old-growth ponderosa and white fir, from gathering around a fire beneath an Oregon sky to sitting down to a slice of pie that has defined a century of hospitality—every experience at Union Creek connects you to something larger than the moment. History here is not something you observe. It’s something you taste, walk, and carry home.

Give Back to the Places You Love

Through our Round Up program and other philanthropic initiatives, guests can support preservation, education, and community programs around the places we call home — helping protect these landmarks for generations to come. Because honoring legacy also means investing in the future.
